Chiropractic

Chiropractic is the largest drug free, primary health care profession in the western world. It is based on the scientific fact that the human body is both self regulating and self healing, and it is the control of brain, spinal cord and nerve function that allows this. Chiropractic is based on the understanding that the natural state for our body is balance and health and true health comes when our body can grow, adapt and heal at it's very best. The beauty of Chiropractic is in it's simplicity. Chiropractic is a proactive, non-invasive approach to enhance health and well-being by fine tuning the body so it works at it's absolute peak. For health and vitality our nervous system needs to function without distortion or interference. The bones of the skull, spine and pelvis protect the delicate pathways that make up the nervous system. Misalignment of these bones alter nerve function and therefore impact normal healthy body function. Chiropractic is a proven safe, gentle and effective approach not only for the relief of pain and discomfort but also enjoyed by millions of people every year to maximise their health and well-being.
Chiropractic medicine has been around since the earliest recorded history, often called 'bone setting' in many cultures. The word Chiropractic is from Greek chiro "hand" and praktikos "concerned with action". As a profession, it dates back to 1895. Chiropractic is a natural method of health care that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of spinal subluxations (vertebral mis-alignments) that can effect the nervous system and a person's overall health.
Chiropractic treats the causes of physical problems instead of just the symptoms. The premise of chiropractic is that the body is better able to heal itself with normally functioning nerves and spine, along with a healthy lifestyle.
Chiropractors may incorporate along with spinal adjustments, massage, an exercise program, nutritional supplements, acupuncture, homeopathy and biofeedback to name a few alternative medical treatments.
The spinal cord, which is protected by the vertebrae of the spine, is the main pathway of the nervous system. These nerves control feeling, movement and functions throughout the body. A pinched nerve may result in those related organs or bodily systems not functioning optimally.
Chiropractors have five years of professional medical training, resulting in a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree. They study the structure and function of the spine and how it effects health and disease. It is the largest alternative medical profession and the third largest doctored profession - after medical doctors and dentists.
Satisfaction rates are usually higher for chiropractic alternative medicine compared to traditional care by an M.D. The use of chiropractic continues to grow throughout the world.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a procedure in which an acupuncture needle is inserted directly into the muscle at the site of a trigger point. A trigger point is a hypersensitive spot in a muscle that can refer pain to other areas of the body. Once the trigger point is deactivated (this can be done through acupressure or dry needling) the pain sensation that is felt in the associated muscle or the joint that has been limited, is improved.
Dry needling focuses on joint and muscular injuries and pain unlike acupuncture which works with energy meridians and its flow in the body. So whilst acupuncture and dry needling sound similar there use in treatment is quite different.
